Start of studies: 01 October of each year, duration of study: 3 years resp. 6 semesters
One semester divides up into a regular 12-weeks theoretical phase and a 12-weeks practical phase in the company.
Prerequisites for study and application:
General qualification for university entrance, the corresponding subject-restricted higher education entrance qualification or advanced technical college entrance qualification and an apprenticeship contract with HPT Pharma Packaging.
If you want to study at the University of Cooperative Education, you first apply for an apprenticeship at HPT.
The prospective students conclude the apprenticeship contract with the company. The form of the apprenticeship contract is stipulated and governs the mutual commitments (among other things the level of remuneration, holiday, compulsory attendance).
The admission to study is granted by the Staatliche Studienakademie Thüringen (Public Study Academy Thuringia) on submission of a certified copy of the certificate of eligibility for university entrance and a copy of the apprenticeship contract.
The field of study plastics technology is aligned to plastics and rubber processing as well as mould construction. The study combines broad, industry-independent, scientific-technical basic knowledge with current engineering expert knowledge.
The training is mainly based on the basic subjects mathematics, physics, mechanics and science of the strength of materials, electrical engineering and electronic engineering.
Subject-specific contents are material science, production engineering, plastics processing, production scheduling, construction, machine elements, polymer processing machines and tools, automation engineering, production measurement technology, quality assurance, rubber processing, machine maintenance, industrial safety and environmental protection.
The theoretical transfer of knowledge is consolidated by subject-specific and interdisciplinary practical laboratory work for engineering and data processing. The studies are completed by subjects such as business administration, computer sciences, modern working, presentation and management methods as well as technical English.
The theoretical part of the study is organized efficiently. In the practical phases the theoretical transfer of knowledge should be completed resp. broadened by practical skills and knowledge. In project works and seminar papers the student is prepared for engineering-based working methods.
Fields of application:
Upon successful completion of the studies generally the scopes of duties include construction in mould making, project planning, production scheduling and managing production areas, tasks of production planning and control (PPS), quality assurance, machine maintenance as well as technical advice of customers and suppliers.
Requirements for future students:
The objective is to achieve a qualified final degree and to develop broad, detailed practical knowledge within a short period of time. This means a particularly intensive study. In addition to the above-mentioned graduation therefore also the following points are required:
a very good or good theoretical background in mathematics, physics, chemistry, foreign languages,
a quick perception for practical requirements.

Dual University / field plastics technology – vocational qualification and university degree in only 4,5 years

Since 2005 the University of Applied Sciences Hof has been offering the opportunity to combine vocational training and studies. Compared to the normal operational sequence – vocational training and subsequent studies – you save up to two years. In addition you receive an apprentice’s pay.
Operational sequence: In the first year you start your vocational training at HPT and in the vocational school (Rehau) in September. Usually own classes are set up for the apprentices of the dual training model where the knowledge of the vocational school is imparted succinctly. The intermediate examination to control your knowledge takes place after one and a half year.
In October of the second year you start your studies at the University of Applied Sciences Hof. During the semester breaks you regularly work in the company. The written final vocational examination takes place in the practical semester, e. g. in the 5th semester. After having finished your vocational training you will complete the last two semesters and after having passed the exams successfully you will receive your academic degree of Bachelor.
